Most eighth graders are thinking about homework and high school. Jensen Mechelke is getting ready for professional race weekends.
The 14-year-old From Gilbert, Arizona, earned his International Motor Sports Association professional racing license on his 14th birthday, a milestone that allows him to compete in professional races before he even starts high school.
Mechelke is a student at ASU Prep Digital. He is preparing for race weekends at tracks across the country while balancing schoolwork with training sessions, simulator practice and travel.
His path to professional racing started early. At 3 years old, he was playing racing games on an Xbox. By age 10, he was competing in national kart competitions.
