This Seeing Eye Donkey Petey is Using His Voice to Help His Blind Horse Friend Play

A little donkey is getting a lot of attention for the way he sticks by a blind horse named Luna.

PetHelpful shared the story of Petey, calling him Luna’s “Seeing Eye Donkey.” In the clip, Luna comes out of her stall and heads toward a snowy yard with Petey beside her.

Rather than moving off without her, Petey appears to call to her gently and wait for her pace, helping her follow along before they continue outside.

One commenter wrote, “I’ve never heard a donkey use a gentle voice. It’s so sweet!” Another added, “Donkeys are amazing, and they don’t get enough credit.”

PetHelpful said Petey does not seem interested in running off on his own and wants Luna included too.

The article said Petey and Luna’s bond shows how intelligent, social and emotionally aware animals can be when they have the chance to form close relationships.

It said companionship can be especially important for blind animals. Vision loss can be disorienting, but animals can still live safe, happy and full lives with the right routines, environment and support. A calm animal companion may help reduce stress and build confidence.

The article also said donkeys are widely known for being affectionate, observant and protective, and that some serve as guardians for other animals on farms.

For people caring for a horse with vision loss, the article said safety and consistency are key. A smaller stall or corral can help during the adjustment period, and keeping feed, water and barriers in predictable places can make daily life easier.

It said calm verbal cues, gradual introductions to new environments and secure fencing may help a blind horse move around with less stress. It also advised owners to work closely with a veterinarian or equine professional before making changes.
