Dramatic video from inside a Mississippi school bus captures the moment five middle-school students leapt into action after the driver lost consciousness, preventing what could have been a serious crash.
Video from the Hancock County School District shows driver Leah Taylor collapsing while operating the bus on April 22, prompting a rapid response from students onboard.
Several Hancock Middle School pupils coordinated to take control of the vehicle, with some assisting with steering and braking while others contacted emergency services and the school district. Another student helped the driver by providing medication she had been holding.
According to reports, Taylor suffered an asthma attack shortly after the bus departed Hancock Middle School in Mississippi. She attempted to reach her medication but lost consciousness before she could take it.
The bus was successfully brought under control and stopped safely, averting any injuries.
According to local media, Taylor has since recovered and said the students had “saved her life.”
