What started as a honeymoon swim at Embleton Bay ended with a family heirloom hunt, and a result the newlyweds thought they would never get.
Sarah Stone and Logan Mills, from Oxford, lost their rings while swimming at the Northumberland beach and thought they were “gone forever”.
After asking locals for help, they were put in touch with Andy Grant and Lorna Rawlings, a metal-detecting couple from Craster.
Stone said Grant, who had gained a reputation for finding rings in the area, and Rawlings found the rings within five minutes of starting their search.
Grant said: “One of the things that stood out when Logan phoned me was how distraught he sounded. We just said ‘we do metal-detecting, we can search for it’, and we found it.”
Stone said: “We just couldn’t believe it. You go through this process of being like ‘no we’ve lost them forever’, so when he found them it was just incredible. It was so fast, it was amazing. It’s just nice knowing kindness is still alive and heroes are still out there.”
