Hotel for Homeless Dogs Hosts World Cup-Themed Puppy Bowl to Help Adoptable Dogs Find Homes

Puppies took over Providence Place Mall in Rhode Island on Thursday as the Hotel for Homeless Dogs held its first Puppy Bowl.

The matchup featured 10 puppies available for adoption. The dogs wore Haiti and Scotland bandanas, replicating the upcoming World Cup matchup in Foxborough.

“They are having absolute blast in their little soccer field over there,” Hotel for Homeless Dogs Manager Savannah Joseph said. “They’re loving it. They want to do the puppy bowl every week.”

The rescue said the goal was to help the puppies find homes.

“They get to meet a million new people. They get all the snacks,” Joseph said.

Dozens of spectators came out to cheer on the dogs.

“It’s just so sweet and cute, and it really makes my day to see the puppies,” Sarah Lessem said.

“They make me feel so good. So good. Because they just provide that unconditional love and support,” Pawtucket resident Jim Dember said.

The shelter said the puppies came from overcrowded shelters across five southern states.

“Tilly is from Mississippi. She came in, she had mane, she had no hair. She only weighed a few pounds,” Joseph said.

Joseph said the Hotel for Homeless Dogs often runs out of room.

“Almost every single week we’re out of space at the shelter, we only have 17 kennels, so we heavily rely on our foster families,” Joseph said.

The rescue said it hopes the Puppy Bowl will get more people to adopt, foster or volunteer.

“Even if we can get just a few adopted that makes a big difference,” Joseph said.
