Dozens of chihuahuas in Boca Raton are now in rescue care after what rescuers described as deeply inadequate living conditions.
WPLG Local 10 reported Tri-County Animal Rescue took in chihuahuas of various ages. The dogs are in the rescue’s care, where staff are working to stabilize them and prepare them for adoption.
Many of the dogs had never received medical care or the everyday attention companion animals need. That means routine basics, including wellness checks, treatments and consistent handling, may be new for them.
Paul Motz described the animals’ living conditions and what rescuers believe this effort could mean for them. The focus has now shifted to recovery.
At Tri-County Animal Rescue, the dogs have started medical treatment and socialization, with rescuers hoping that leads to permanent homes.
Animal hoarding cases can leave pets with physical and emotional needs that take time, money and patience to address. Even small dogs can need extensive support after living without proper veterinary care, healthy surroundings or regular human interaction.
The case also points to the role local rescues play when private living situations become unsafe. Taking in dozens of dogs at once is a major undertaking, especially when each animal may need individual treatment and assessment.
Once the dogs are healthy and ready, adoption will be the next step.
