A rescued crow has turned into an unlikely thank you campaign for a woman in Canada, with gifts now dropping at her feet on walks.

Leah Wilson told CTV she stepped in after a young crow got stuck inside the roof gutter of a nearby house. Wilson, who is Métis, said there was a fire truck parked nearby, so she asked the firefighters for help.

“I was like, ‘Hey! You look like you want to save a crow today,’” Leah recalls to CTV with a laugh.

The firefighters brought over a ladder to reach the bird. After it was freed, Wilson took it to a wildlife veterinarian.

She said the encounter stayed with her.

“He latched on to my finger and held on, that was life-changing,” she said.

Wilson later started getting what she described as “thank you gifts” from local crows.

“I was going for a walk with my dog, [and] a crow flew down and dropped this beautiful, feathered bundle at my feet.”

She said that was the first of several gifts from the local murder.

Now, Wilson said crows circle around her when she goes out walking, something she described as the “highlight” of her day.

She said the crow she rescued still comes to see her, and she can recognise him by the band on his leg from when he was released back into the wild.
