Sometimes a roadside stop turns into something else entirely.
When Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Brody Schmitz stopped to help a motorist on a ramp to Interstate 90, the driver told him she had seen someone throw kittens from a moving vehicle, according to a Wisconsin State Patrol Facebook post.
“The motorist informed him that she had witnessed someone throw kittens out of a moving vehicle,” the post said.
The patrol said the vehicle was not found, but one kitten was.
“Unfortunately, the offending vehicle was not located, but a kitten was found,” the post said.
Schmitz took the kitten to a nearby animal shelter while he was at work, and told staff he wanted to adopt it, according to the post.
“Trooper Schmitz took the kitten to a nearby animal shelter to have it cared for while he was at work, but told them he wanted to adopt him,” the patrol wrote.
Schmitz named the tuxedo kitten Toby and later took him home.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Wisconsin State Patrol did not immediately respond to a request for details.
The Facebook post drew a wave of comments, including one that said: “The cat distribution system works in mysterious ways.”
