US Rescue Team Pulls Venezuelan Mother and 9-Month-Old Alive From Earthquake Rubble

A baby and her mother were pulled alive from the rubble in Venezuela on Saturday, days after earthquakes killed more than 1,400 people.

Video shared from the rescue showed Virginia Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 1 working to reach survivors trapped in collapsed buildings.

The US State Department wrote on X, “Against impossible odds, hope endures.”

The White House also posted about the rescue, writing, “America at its best.”

In another post, the US State Department said, “American search and rescue teams rescued an infant from beneath the rubble following the earthquake in Venezuela. Every life saved is a victory.”

According to the rescue team, the 9-month-old baby and her mother suffered only minor injuries after rescuers pulled them from the debris.

The US deployed more than 200 search and rescue teams after Wednesday’s earthquakes, which injured more than 3,300 people.

Authorities in Caracas said at least 200 people have been rescued from the rubble since Saturday.

About 51,000 people are still missing.

CNN reported that 21 international aid delegations have arrived in Venezuela since Wednesday to help with search and rescue efforts.
