A supermarket checkout turned into a small act of kindness in Warrington, after an Asda worker stepped in to help an elderly customer get home safely.
Phil Snow-Griffiths, 23, helped the woman, who does not want to be named, at the Asda Birchwood store after noticing her struggling to balance a pack of 24 soft drink cans on her walking frame.
The woman had been planning to get the bus home, but Asda said Snow-Griffiths “wouldn’t have any of it”.
Instead, he helped her through the checkout, got her a seat and arranged a taxi for her.
Snow-Griffiths, a produce team leader, said: “She had trouble walking, so would have really struggled.
“It wouldn’t have been safe to have the items balanced on her walking frame.
“I made sure I got all the shopping in the taxi for her before it left.”
He said the customer was hugely appreciative.
“She was very grateful, but I am always happy to help and support whenever and wherever I can,” he added.
His actions drew praise on Facebook, with one poster saying: “your mother must be proud of you”.
Another wrote: “What a lovely young man, keep up the amazing work Phil, you are truly making a huge difference.”
Customer manager Michelle Simms has nominated Snow-Griffiths for an Asda service superstar award for his kindness.
She said: “The customer was so grateful for his help, for his thoughtfulness and care given.
“Not only does Phil support every area of the shop but he is also excellent with our customers and is always happy to help.”
