What started with a 911 call ended with a rush of customers at a lemonade stand in Kansas City, Kansas.

Siblings Parez and Jakkhi Reese had spent years running lemonade stands on their property to make extra money when an unknown neighbor or passerby called 911 to report their business.

But when emergency responders showed up, they did not shut the stand down. They bought drinks and snacks instead.

Officer Morgan Reed was the first to arrive after receiving the 911 call, and she said she quickly called other officers and encouraged them to stop by.

“I was calling everybody,” Reed said. “‘Make sure you guys stop by the lemonade stand.’ Then whenever they weren’t busy, a couple people were able to swing by.”

In about 30 minutes, dozens of officers bought food from the boys’ stand. The brothers raised around $280.

“I think a lot of us were kids growing up in this city,” Reed said. “This was the thing that we always looked forward to as kids, these friendly police interactions.”

Parez said he wants to use the money to buy a new e-bike and help the homeless. Jakkhi said he wants to buy diapers for his nephew and niece.
