A Senior Night in Texas turned into something Mason Wisnoski and his family say they will never forget.
Mason, a senior at Manvel High School who has Down syndrome, got the chance to score a touchdown during the school’s Senior Night last Thursday. With the ball in his hands, he ran 30 yards down the field and into the end zone.
After the play, Mason’s teammates from the offensive line gathered around him, lifted him onto their shoulders and carried him off the field as the crowd celebrated.
“It makes a parent’s heart really proud to see him so joyous and so happy to do something that he has waited so long to do,” his mother, Stephanie Wisnoski, told Click2Houston.
His father, Eddie Wisnoski, said the family was especially grateful for how the team and school treated him.
“Just knowing that the staff and the team made him feel like he was just a part of the team, it was awesome,” he said.
Mason described the moment simply.
“Awesome, I feel happy,” he said.
The Manvel Mavericks later beat rival Alvin High School 53-0, but for the Wisnoski family, the biggest moment came before the game started.
“All the people involved made that happen for him,” Mason’s father told NBC News. “And we’re just so thankful for it.”
