A dog named Buddy spent eight days trapped under the rubble of his collapsed home in Caraballeda, Venezuela, before rescuers found him alive on Thursday.

Rescuers were searching through debris when they heard faint barking beneath a pile of broken concrete. They followed the sound, smashed through the rubble and reached the 6-year-old dog, who had survived for more than a week without being able to escape.

Video of the rescue shows the dust-covered dog being gently pulled through a small opening as rescuers cheer.

Buddy was visibly weak and badly dehydrated, but otherwise unharmed.

His owner had feared the worst after the home collapsed and had nearly given up hope of seeing him again.

The rescue came after Buddy spent eight days beneath the rubble.
