Who says a giant slip ‘n slide is only for kids?
At Adams Place in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, residents at the senior living community climbed onto inner tubes for the annual Ride ‘n Slide event, with caregivers, firefighters and Middle Tennessee State University football players helping out.
A massive tarp across the lawn served as the slide’s centrepiece. The Murfreesboro Fire Department kept it wet and helped residents safely get on and off the tubes, while MTSU football players cheered them on.
Resident Mike Mitchell, an Army veteran and retired Church of Christ minister who served for 60 years, gave himself a pep talk as he prepared for his ride.
“I can do this,” he said. “I’m a soldier, I can do this.”
Organisers said the day was about creating joy, and that even seniors living with dementia or Parkinson’s disease light up during the event.
One of the MTSU football players said helping residents was rewarding.
“Being able to help them up, it’s a blessing just to make people’s day, make them happy,” he said.
The Ride ‘n Slide event has become a tradition at Adams Place.
