Amy Adams says one of her old TV roles came in handy in a real emergency.

Speaking on the “SmartLess” podcast in an episode released this week, the Oscar nominated star of “The Fighter” and “Enchanted” said she was leaving a restaurant in Santa Monica with her family when she noticed a disturbance nearby.

“These people were screaming and a guy was walking and they were yelling, ‘He’s dying!’” she told hosts Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and Jason Batemen.

Adams said her husband, Darren Le Gallo, stayed with their daughter while she and her father went to help.

“He’d been stabbed in the neck,” she said. “So he was bleeding and his friends were freaking out.”

She said they grabbed beach towels to help stop the bleeding. Her father applied pressure to the wound, while Adams tried to keep the man calm and focused on breathing.

As she spoke to him, Adams said she drew on her brief time playing registered nurse Alice Doherty on “Dr. Vegas,” the CBS series starring Rob Lowe as Dr. Billy Grant that aired for five episodes in 2004.

She recalled repeating, “The more you struggle, the faster you’re going to bleed. Just lay down.”

Adams said she saw the man again about a year later.

“A guy walks up to me in a restaurant,” she said. “He’s like, ‘I heard a story that you and your dad were on the scene of a guy getting stabbed.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s so funny you heard that story.’”

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s you,’” Adams said. “He was all teary and he had his son with him. It was so crazy.”

Adams, who was promoting her new Apple TV series “Cape Fear,” joked that she always wanted to be a doctor.
