A Senior Center Worker is Celebrating 50 Years on the Job With Perfect Attendance and Zero Sick Days

Tom McKievick answered a job ad in 1976 and ended up staying for 50 years.

McKievick, who works as head of security at Fredericka Manor senior living community in Chula Vista, California, said the job has been “entertaining and it’s challenging, and never boring,” according to Fox 5 San Diego.

He said he was not planning to make it a career when he first applied.

“When I started I wouldn’t think in a million years I’d still be here but I enjoy the residents and the work, and it’s entertaining and it’s challenging, and never boring,” he told Fox 5 San Diego.

Now, 50 years later, McKievick has finished what the Bureau of Labor Statistics defines as a “lifetime career.” During that time, he never took a single sick day.

If he took one week of vacation a year, he would have clocked in 12,650 times.

On his 50th work anniversary, McKievick was presented with an award at a party held in his honor.
