A Colorado wildfire crew got some unexpected company, and it had four legs.

Firefighters working the Rock Creek Fire in Colorado were joined by a goat named Goldie, after the animal appeared in the forest and walked alongside them, according to a Facebook video posted by the Colorado Springs Fire Department on July 9.

“Every crew needs a good leader … apparently ours has four legs 🐐🔥,” the CSFD captioned the video.

The department said Goldie “led them toward the fire area and even helped with some fuel mitigation along the way.”

“We’re not saying she’s ready for a badge… but we’re also not saying she isn’t😂,” the department wrote.

According to the Associated Press, Goldie is a 4-year-old Nigerian dwarf goat. She stayed with firefighters for hours, chomping on leaves while they worked to put out the fire and clear brush.

The AP reported that Goldie then followed the firefighters to their trucks before trailing one vehicle as it drove away.

The department later learned Goldie belonged to a nearby family.

“GREAT NEWS!! This sweet little friend’s owners reached out to us,” the CSFD wrote. “She is a family goat. She made it back home safely with our firefighters as they returned.”

The video had drawn more than 2.5 million views since it was posted.

In the comments, the department added, “We have a feeling this is NOT the last time you’ll see her on our social.”
