Top 10 Best Cities for Street Food Around the World Revealed

Street food might bring to mind Vietnam or Mexico first, but this ranking went somewhere else entirely.

Paris has been named the best street food city in the world in a new study by Radical Storage, which analysed 6,897 street food vendors across the 100 most-visited cities globally.

The study assessed the number of vendors with a star rating above four, cuisine variety, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, the share of budget-friendly food, and vendor density per square kilometre.

It defined street food as food stalls and trucks, along with sit-in restaurants serving classic street food bites.

Vendor density carried the biggest weighting at 30 percent. The proportion of budget-friendly options counted for 20 percent. The number of vendors rated above four stars, average vendor rating, cuisine variety, vegetarian and vegan options, and gluten-free options were each weighted at 10 percent.

Paris scored 7.2 out of 10. Radical Storage found 69.1 percent of its 401 street food eateries were rated four stars or more, and the city had a density of 3.82 vendors per square kilometre.

Athens ranked second with a score of 6.9 out of 10, helped by 29 cuisines on offer and 4.21 food vendors per square kilometre.

Thessaloniki placed third on 6.1, with 77.1 percent of its street food options classed as budget-friendly.

Europe dominated the top 10, with Greek cities taking three spots.

Rhodes recorded the best-rated street food in the study, with 82 percent of vendors rated four stars or higher. London ranked highest for variety, with dishes from 39 distinct food types.

The top 10 cities were Paris, Athens, Thessaloniki, Barcelona, London, Rhodes, Rome, Hanoi, Budapest and Amsterdam.
