A Toronto goldfish is having a World Cup run of its own.

Swimbappé, named after French star Kylian Mbappe, has been predicting FIFA World Cup matches from a World Cup-themed tank at 225 Wellington St. W. Since the tournament started last week, crowds of fans have gathered at the CBC building at John and Wellington streets to watch.

Before each scheduled match, miniature flags are placed on both sides of the tank to represent the teams playing. Swimbappé makes its pick by swimming to one side of the tank, as fans gather and chant its name.

On Wednesday, ahead of Canada’s match against Qatar, Swimbappé swam to Canada’s side of the tank. Canada went on to beat Qatar on Thursday night.

So far, the goldfish has correctly predicted eight of the first 15 winners.

“Does he know the rules? No. Has he ever watched football? Probably not. He’s a fish. Should you put all your faith in him? Yes,” the goldfish’s Instagram account said.

Fans have also been reacting online.

“If he didn’t pick Canada, he was getting deported,” one Instagram user commented.

“Connecting my @fanduelcanada account to the fish,” another wrote.

“What a legend,” Toronto skateboarder @justinbehan commented.

The goldfish’s account replied to some of the posts, writing: “Swimbappé accepts your compliment. Glub, glub.”
