One graduate got her degree at Texas Tech University, and her service dog got one too.
A graduation moment from the university spread online after Sadie, a service dog who supported student Makaela Muse through four years of classes, labs and health challenges, received a surprise honorary diploma, as Parade Pets reported.
ABC News shared the moment on TikTok. In the footage, Muse crossed the stage to receive her bachelor’s degree in animal sciences with Sadie beside her. Both wore graduation robes.
During the ceremony, Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovenec presented Sadie with an honorary diploma and placed it in her mouth. The crowd cheered, and Muse became emotional.
“Awwwwwwwww he looks so adorable in his cap and gown,” one TikTok commenter wrote.
Parade Pets reported that Sadie accompanied Muse to classes as a medical alert dog. The outlet said Muse passed out in her first lab and was later diagnosed with two health conditions that cause hormonal fluctuations.
Sadie then became a constant part of Muse’s college life. Muse is now applying to veterinary school and expects Sadie to stay by her side.
“There is no Makaela without Sadie; we’re a packaged deal at this point,” Muse said in an interview, per Parade Pets.
