Owl Rescued From Soccer Goal Netting by Officers in a World Cup-Worthy Save

A soccer goal in suburban Ohio became an unlikely rescue scene after an owl got tangled in the netting and could not free itself.

WYFF4 reported the rescue happened on July 19 in Avon, a suburb of Cleveland, after Avon Police received a call about an owl stuck in a soccer goal net. Officers Steve Vogel and David Orlando went to the field.

The Avon Police Department later shared footage of the rescue on Facebook. Video showed the owl trapped in the mesh as the officers worked to free it.

Police held the owl down as it struggled while they cut it loose. Afterward, the owl appeared unharmed and flew away.

In a Facebook update, the Avon Police Department wrote: “Just another example of the outstanding service the members of the Avon Police Department provide every day, not only to our residents and visitors, but to our local wildlife as well … Thanks to their quick actions and teamwork, the owl flew away unharmed.”
