What started as a stop on the side of a Kentucky interstate ended more than two months later with an owl flying free again.
Deputies in Harrison County found the injured owl near the interstate shoulder on May 11 after pulling over to help, WAVE reported. The bird was alive, but an apparent wing injury meant it could not take off.
The owl was taken to Raptors Rise Rehabilitation Center for specialized treatment and monitoring. After more than two months of rehabilitation, it was released back into the wild.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Facebook page later posted a video of the release, showing the bird flying back into the forest.
