A house fire in western Palm Beach County turned into a pet rescue after firefighters found a missing black cat, gave it oxygen and carried a hamster to safety.
Smoke and flames were visible at a one-story home on the 5000 block of Basil Avenue when Palm Beach County Fire Rescue arrived, according to WPBF.
All of the home’s occupants were already outside, but firefighters were told a black cat was still missing.
WPBF reported that some first responders worked to put out the fire while others carried out an “aggressive” search inside the home for the cat.
After crews found the cat, they brought it to a rescue truck for oxygen and then reunited it with its owner.
A hamster was also safely removed from the house in its cage.
The fire was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported, officials said.
Officials said the fire was accidental, and both pets survived.
