Colorado Firefighters Rescue 7 Puppies and Pet Rat From House Fire

A house fire in Pueblo ended with firefighters pulling seven puppies and a pet rat to safety, but two adult dogs and one puppy died from smoke.

The fire happened on Pueblo’s north side at about 7:30 p.m. on August 2. According to FOX21 News, firefighters arrived and learned that two adult dogs and a litter of puppies were inside the house.

Crews began “an aggressive initial search” while also fighting the fire, according to FOX21 News.

After the fire was brought under control, firefighters removed seven puppies and a pet rat from the home. Some of the surviving animals needed CPR and supplemental oxygen because of smoke inhalation.

No residents or responding personnel were injured.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

The rescued puppies are now in the care of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
